We are soon to have a packaging policy directive. This weeks directive !
I totally agree that goods we buy are over-packaged to the point of lunacy.
Stand in any supermarket checkout queue and study the amount of card and plastic wrap round the goods on the conveyor, against the actual contents and it's really scary.
It can't last.
We framers tend to get a huge amount of paper, card, bubble-wrap and corrugated etc. Some of which can be re-cycled, or re-used to wrap customers' purchases. We use the glass interleaf papers as an underwrap prior to brown paper parceling. Bubble wrap: that's obvious. Corrugated some of it, if it comes out of a Nielsen longbox and can be used again.
Still leaves a lot to re-cycle though

I had to laugh at Asda's initiative where they are asking their customers to return surplus packaging to a couple of their stores and they will analyse it and take it up with their suppliers to reduce the packaging, effectively blaming the suppliers for the surplus packaging. I used to work with for a large company that supplied the major retailers. Part of my job was working with the supplier to develop the packaging to the retailers specification. So for Asda to imply the problem lies with the supplier is total bull. The problem with the grocery market, unlike our market, is that the strength lies with the major retailers, and most suppliers have to do their bidding if they want to increase their sales.
My shop is in a large shopping centre and we manage to recycle a large % of our waste. I would like to see our glass supplier have a waste collection service incorporated into their deliveries which would help us.
