problem with a dvd

wonder if anyone can help

i purchased latest harry potter - 2 dvd's in separate boxs - year 7 part 1 and year 7 part 2

part 2 plays on my computer and on the tv player

part 1 will only play on the tv player not on the computer !

anyone come accross this both are premium products from amazon and new.

I tried everything i can think of but no luck
when all is said and done - there is more said than done.

The only thing I can think of is that they are set for two different zones. You may have the North American one which may not be viewable

nah its not a region thing, or almost certain not to be

its more likely to be a copy protection thing


some of the latest copy protection schemes can be a pain on computers


either that or there is a rom section on the disc

Can you test the disks on another computer/player?

hey john ---- !!! plays on my old laptop - but not on the new one! also plays on tv player ? bit weird as disc 2 plays on both . Any idea why new dell won't play it ?

I'd guess a dodgy drive. I have the same problem on one of my computers, but the problem seems to be intermittent as a "faulty" disk may play okay once in a while.

Have you tried cleaning the disk?

I'll try that john - also somewhere i have a drive cleaner!! - i only really use this drive for dvd's and it has not caused a problem until harry potter - maybe its got a spell on it :xcomputer:

Anyway - thanks for the help - at least i can watch on the old computer without interrupting mrs mikey watching the tv.
