What Have We Learned

Post by strokebloke »

What have we learned in 2,064 years?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled,
public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be
tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should
be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to
work, instead of living on public assistance."

- Cicero - 55 BC

Evidently nothing.

As a child, we had a set of Britannica Encyclopaedia - no television - just this set of books.
Those books were my lifeline. I wasn't allowed comics. Parent were strict Methodists :sweating:
I read, and re-read everything I could about the Spartans - I thought they were wonderful.
Alexander the Great & his horse Beucephalus were another favourite. But the Spartans were my absolute heros.
I wanted to be brave and fearless like them; but they terrified me
