it runs my gunnar, cassese 199, air gun, omer tab gun etc
i don have issues with it
another option is just buy a second compressor, you can run a gunnar off the small signle pot jobby from bambi. it also means you dont have all ya eggs in one basket
I used to run a casses 3099 and my trucut of a twin pot no problem
But a hydrovane still is a better machine, they are designed for constant use so if you do get a to a stage where you are running both constant or you are looking to add more machinery then this is the machine for you.
That is what I used to use (still have it in reserve). One thing to remember with Bambi's is that they can be expensive to service as they are extensively used in dentistry and engineers are used to charging a rate befitting that industry .
They can't be run constantly so if you do get to the stage where you are running to capacity it doesn't take long for them to start failing, they can over heat. Make sure you either have it serviced and or keep on top of maintenance, because they are silent you tend to forget about them.
I'm going to add to this thread rather than start a new one...
We currently have a Bambi BB24D (http://www.lionpic.co.uk/product/Bambi- ... ,1222.aspx) which is running what I'd consider a small workshop setup. It only ever powers our minigraf 4 and a set of hand tools. On Bambi's recommendation we have added a coalsescent filter to the compressor and it's been doing ok for the last 6 months or so. But now oil is starting to leak, the compressor gets very hot and worst of all, oil is spitting through the air gun even though we've got this filter inserted.
We drain the compressor weekly. And this is the third one, after the first two we got were faulty...
We're now thinking this Bambi might simply not be powerful enough for what we do. We do need a silent compressor... does anyone here have any suggestions as to a viable alternative? Are oil compressors favourable?
Hydrovanes though not completely silent are hard work horses. I have a large 3 phase one and yes it is noisy but its isn't noisy like the large oil piston compressors which sound a thousand little men bashing the inside of the tank with 5lb lump hammers. I think the single phase ones are a lot quieter then a mine. as I have said they will be more than sufficient to run an underpinner and tools.
The 501 is the 1.5hp version and the 502 is the larger one that I have, both are available new from dj simons. However I bought a refurbished one from http://www.compressorman.co.uk
Thanks graysalchemy... we just spoke to the Compressorman and he was very nice and helpful. However, he said his very best option if we wanted to stay with a silent compressor would cost £2900 + VAT. This is most certainly out of our budget and considering we're a two person workshop using an underpinner and an air gun or staple gun at the same time at the most, it seems disproportionate at this point.
Our main problem is the spitting of oil through the air gun despite the added coalescent filter. You can imagine what happens when you've got oil spitting onto a 10k fine art photograph!!
What do other people here use for powering a hand air gun?
My hydrovane only has no filters or traps and I get no problem with oil in the airline. I have a separate feed to my benches which have a lubricator on them so hand air tools are all lubricated all machines have them fitted as well.
Now I know that there is oil in my air tank as quite a bit come sout when i drain the tank mixed with water but non gets to the benches. I wonder if this is to do with size of tank and length of hoses that i use?
The silent compressors compressor man will be talking about are the ones which look like a chest freezer and not a compressor. I know the 501's aren't completely silent like a bambi but they are quieter than mine and a lot lot quieter than a piston compressor it is basically the motor which makes the noise. The other point is that if you had a large tank on your compressor it wouldn't be tripping on all the time and also the hydrovanes have a higher flow rate than a bambi so again they won't actually be on as long.
Like Alistair, I also got my compressor set-up from Tony at Compressorman. I got a virtually new HV01 (the smallest Hydrovane, single phase) on a 75 litre tank, it is a brilliant machine. They do need servicing though every 12 months.
We have a Trucut CMC and that runs only on the Bambi 24litre comp, which was new when we bought it, and we run a 50 litre bambi twin pot to run the air comp and chop saw. We used to have an Alfamacchine Minigraf 4 before we traded up to an MC, but the Bambi was fine with the Minigraf 4. The MC is much more hungry for air and is too small and the Hydrovane that Graysalachemy suggests is the right answer, but we can put it in another room.
We still use the 50 litre Bambi which does get hot when doing a lot of pinning, especially with multi pins/corner so I doing something else for 10 minutes then come back to it.
I would have though that for a Minigraf 4 and air tools that STCSTC suggestion is fine. I don't like running the CMC off the other machine because of pressure fluctuations, but it should handle that as well.
