Never, never, never again!

I agreed to repair and touch up a framed oval mirror, which had fallen off the wall when the string broke. Looked nice and easy - Yep! I can do this.
Quoted a price - The price was accepted - No problem!

Oh, dear! I have just discovered what happens when a gold varnished over gesso mirror frame his the floor. As it hits the floor the oval frame flexes very slightly as it absorbs the impact. The height reduces very slightly for a fraction of a second, while the width increases also very slightly.

Funny as it my seem, apart from what appears to be very limited damage everything looks good. You can't see any cracks in the gesso. - They are all hidden by the layer of gold varnish or paint.

As you repair the frame, you start to notice the odd little crack appear in the gold. No problem you fix it. Then you check for more. Good no more cracks.

Five minutes later another crack appears, then another. Is there any end to this happening?

Apparently not!
