I originally started this thread in the middle of June & it is now the last day of August.IFGL wrote: ........Please post and let us know if it works.
So in response to IFGL's suggestion ~~~~~~~~~
The 2100 works well in the vertical position, though I do still suspect that it has probably been easier for me, as a new starter, than it would be for, say Peter, who has been cutting mats flat on a bench since the 1980s.
I have had to do some mods to the supporting A frame. It was too low to be able to easily see the bottom stop rule.
I had 8" from the top of the bed to the ceiling, so have lifted it 7" which allows the hinged clamp arm to rotate freely to get a large sheet of mountboard under the clamp bar.
I've also installed two adjustable LEDs to the square clamp bar rail to enable me to see the divisions on the top and bottom rules clearly.
This is only due to where I have positioned the mat cutter in the room and the proximity of the ceiling light. I do have an Anglepoise on the end of the work bench, but it threw shadows onto the rules.
I'm pleased with the result, having used it regularly now for about 10 weeks.
I find cutting mat square, to size with the RH cutter is very easy, with no loss of control or smoothness of action, due to not pulling the cutter block toward yourself. If you cut sitting on a chair you pull the cutter block downwards, with two hands. and if you stand, you push the cutter block with two hands. Neither action is uncomfortable.
Cutting bevelled windows, whether in singles or doubles is simplicity itself. And certainly I find it most comfortable to sit in a chair, unless the opening size is very large.
Likewise, decorative 'V' grooves and multiple apertures are very easy to produce.
If I had a much larger work area with plenty of space I maybe would consider returning the 2100 to its conventional horizontal position on a large workbench. But the size of my present workspace dictates, so ..........
If space is at a premium, supporting the mat cutter vertically is a proposition not to be ignored, subject to the proviso that you will have to be prepared to modify your 'horizontal' technique into a 'vertical' one
So, retrospectively, I'm revising the extent of my 'dopiness' in terms of questions, but this is primarily because it is 8:45pm on a pleasant Friday evening ~ I have a tin of an appropriate cold liquid refreshment on my PC desk beside me, the weekend is ahead of me, and all is well with my world.
