double sided sports shirt frame

Post by SeventhWave »

hello framers world!
recommended by Lion, so here is my question:
how can i frame a footy shirt that has been signed BOTH SIDES so they are both visible??
have done glass-both-sides art framing , and of course normal signed shirts, but both!?
look forward to your combined knowledge & expertise....
Regards

Hello SeventhWave and welcome to the forum

You will probably gets lots of different answers to this question because there are lots of ways to achieve good results with sports shirts, but this is how we have done the double sided ones here where luckily the signatures on the back were in the centre of the shirt across the printed number.

Usual former inside the shirt (we use foamboard) and then attached to a mountboard backing in the usual way (sewing or tag gun) with an aperture cut out of the mountboard to show the back of the shirt. You do have to be more careful where you put stitches/tags to make sure they don't show from the back while still supporting the shirt enough. We then put an additional mountboard at the back with slightly smaller aperture so that the first layer doesn't show through. Then put the whole thing together as you would any normal frame glazed front and back. The frame obviously also has to be deep enough to take the various layers without the glass touching the fabric.

Hope that is of some help - I'm sure there will be plenty of other suggestions.

Have a look at this thread http://theframersforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 7&start=40 on page 3 near the bottom (19th Dec) you will find some photos I posted of two frames with t-shirts showing both sides, on the next page you will find a section drawing of the frames.

Hope this is of help
