Stretcher Profile Manufacturers?

Post by mikdagreek »

Hello all,
I work at an art school and use a double sided stretcher profile that looks kind of like a triangle with a corner cut off, it has a 40mm side and a 26mm side. It is in Rose and Hollis' catalog called STR3 Pine.
Now, I use a lot of it, roughly 1.2km per term. This equates to about 300m every 2/3 week.
Does anyone know of a profile manufacturer in the south of England (I'm in London) that I could go straight to and by 1 or 2km at a time and cut out the middle man?
Thanks for any replies, Mike.

Talk to R&H about it, if you are buying that much I'd be after a good discount.

Welcome to the forum innit!

Also sounds like one that Simons (Hackney) do - compare prices; Simons give 20% discount on over 100ft on most mouldings and no doubt could be haggled in to more for that sort of quantity/frequency.

What the last two said. :D

You could get a timber merchant to run it up for you and they may do it a tad cheaper, but in practice I doubt you would save a lot. People who make this stuff have experience with what wood to use and produce a product fit for the purpose. It needs a certain grade of timber. You don't know what you are getting from and untested source. You could end up with 5000ft of bean-sticks.
Speak nicely to R&H and I'm sure they could cut you a deal that would be right.

Would it work out economic to invest in the profiling machinery to produce your own?

I have to say I prefer using stretcher bars that facilitate re-tensioning of the canvas when required.
