Artist Ian Cryer (http://www.theroi.co.uk/artist_ian_cryer.php) is a robust and versatile oil painter and delights in taking on challenging subjects. A great believer in 'the integrity of first hand observation', he works directly from life to achieve the freshness and spontaneity that have become the hallmarks of his work.
'My paintings represent an uncomplicated observational view of the world around me. I feel very much part of the English tradition of tonal painting and the wider northern European tradition of genre painting. The refinement of my craft and the celebration of British culture are my central goals'.
Ian is currently working towards a one man show "A Year on Exmoor" which opens on May 6th 2013.

Ian who has served as Vice President for the last 5 Years said “I am very proud and very much looking forward to be able to lead the ROI at this very interesting period of its long history. Britain has a fantastic legacy of mostly Victorian professional societies that are not found in other countries and provide a bench mark and guiding hand to aspiring artists as well as bringing together artists in what can be a very singular activity. It also excites me to know that many of the painters who have influenced my work were members of or exhibited with the ROI.”
