FRAMING EMBROIDERIES
I have to do a talk to our local embroiders about the importance of framing embroidery ..... Any one out there with a story to share ..... or any points you think I should raise .... would be most welcome and informative. Thank you

I've given talks to several embroiders' guilds and one big thing you should avoid is questions, that is questions that interrupt you, as you can go off on all sorts of tangents if you allow it.
Break your talk in to stages and explain, before you start, that there will be a question session at the end of each stage, on that stage and nothing else, and then a final question session on the whole talk at the end. If, while you're talking, anyone puts a hand up to ask a question or for elaboration on anything, remind them.
I attended a workshop on 'museum mounting' not long ago, given by a very good conservator. All sorts of things were laid out on each of our desks, prints, mounts, etc - we never got to find out what the heck they were put there for because the session was trolled with questions. That's another thing too - don't put a load of stuff out on each desk/place, they'll just pore through it while you are talking and not be listening to you. Dish it out as it's required.
