Framing calculator

Post by Colin »

Hello Framers,

Some years ago I developed a framing calculator based on Excel. It has served me well and if you look at older posts you will see that I did consider selling it but eventually decided not to. After over 40 years in the computing industry I know the amount of time spent supporting a program often exceeds the time it took to write it. So basically I bottled out.
Recently an emerging framer found my old post and asked if he could have a copy to help him get established. If it helps I am happy to give this program to the community if anyone would like a copy please let me know.
It is free of charge but if you feel you would like to make a donation details of my PayPal account are in the spreadsheet.
It is based on the PC version of Excel, if you are using a Mac let me know as I may need to alter the 1900/1904 date system to suite.
No macros are involved and it operates purely of formulae to avoid problems associated with virus infestation.
Hopefully I am not stepping on anyone's toes by providing this or contravening any forum rules.

Happy New Year
Colin

Morning Colin, I am new to framing having recently taken over a friends business. His old chart dates back from 1991. I have been looking for a solution for this. I use an ipad and imac so would be very interested in trying something simple.

Is it possible to be able to try this please and see if it works for me? I have been looking everywhere for a simple solution to this, there are a number of programmes out there that do so much more, all i need is a calculator that can give me a rough idea on my pricing.

Thanks very much

Colin,

Thanks very much for sending me a copy of your programme. It really is a great tool. I'm just into my third year trading and have evolved a pricing formula for which I also use Excel, so it has been very helpful to see a much more pro programme. This should be very useful to anyone starting a framing business. I'm sure this does as good a job as any of the framing software that you can spend a lot of cash on. What about an iphone app! (you could make a fortune with that).
I was very interested to see your programme and to compare it with my own pricing formula, so many thanks again. My situation is that I am trying to get my business established and every penny counts at the moment, but if I do start using your programme, I will make a paypal donation (promise!) .

Everyone else: check it out. It rocks!

Best wishes,

Another Colin.

A number of people have asked if the Arqadia range of mouldings could be added to the calculator. For various reasons it is not just a matter of adding them to the moulding page as some of you may have discovered. I have now added the Arqadia mouldings and re-written parts of the program to accommodate them. If anyone would like a copy of the calculator with these mouldings added please let me know.

I have now added Ashworth and Thomson mouldings to the Framing Calculator. I have also fixed a problem with the facility to calculate possible frame sizes available from an off cut.

If you would like a copy please let me know your email address and I will send it to you.

Many sincere thanks to those who have sent a donation, it is very much appreciated.

The views of this post have now exceeded 1200 and I have sent out over 50 copies of my program.

I gave it away freely but suggested if you are happy with it a donation would be nice. I have only received one donation and my sincere thanks go out to that person but I am now wondering if the program is of any use at all. It now contains Arqadia and Ashworth & Thompson mouldings in addition to Simons and Wessex as a result of requests from users so some of you may be using it.

If you are not happy with it or it is not working correctly please let me know and I will endeavour to fix it. I am now retired and due to some health issues I have time on my hands so I am prepared to tweak the program if required. In any event any feedback good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes to you all,
Colin
