What is everyone using instead of Nori wheat starch paste

Post by Not your average framer »

I'm still using a bookbinding archival paste, but I thought I'd ask what everyone else is using.

About 15 years ago I bought some 'Stadex', which is pre cooked wheat starch paste in a powder form. I just have to add water to a small amount and it's ready to go. I make it quite stiff so it dries quickly.

The PEL site s great, next day delivery and very helpful staff. Get their catalogue, it's free and mouthwatering.
Giclee is just a term for a little squirt making lots of money

Delete Nori, insert Zen

The Nori paste was / is good stuff, but the sales volumes were so small that Greg Fremsted of Framespace in Oregon USA, the creator of the product, could not persuade the manufacturer / packer to carry on making it.
If any of you came to our seminars day on July 3, you will have seen a demo of a new product, called Zen ready-to-use pure wheat starch cake paste. It is used with Japanese papers to make hinges and for repairs. This comes from Sydney Pink in California, someone we've known for 20+ years. It is easy and quick to use, but needs to be used in a particular way, and we are still refining the user instructions, It will be at the Spring Fair '08.
