RIPPLES
Hi All
I have cut out of a book a number of pictures which are now mounted in a multi aperture windowed mount. I have used the traditional ‘T’ mounting tape method and I have left them in their hinged mount for a week covered up whilst I awaited the molding to come in.
I took the cover off and I was disappointed to see small ripples in each of the pictures?
The garage is cold this time of year and the pictures are printed on quite thin paper. Is there a chance if they were moved to a warmer room they will settle back down, especially when they are sandwiched between the glass and backing board?
Regards
Mike

Re: RIPPLES
Paper does expand and contract depending on the moisture in the air. Try moving it indoors for a few days to see if that reverts it.

Re: RIPPLES
There is a chance they will settle down if you move them, but then again it might be stuck like that forever
Re: RIPPLES
I think you'll find that once rippled, paper won't go back flat of it's own accord.
Got access to a heat press? Putting them between sheets of mb and gentle heat/pressure will flatten them, but it's a bit risky depending on the nature of the ripples. If they are 'waves' rather than 'bumps' you stand a better chance. In any case, go gently and it's important to let them cool under pressure.

I had a basement full of watercolour pads once, rippled like a flake when it rained, then went back as normal as soon as they were brought up into the shop. Got them exchanged though
I think using a hot press though it will make it flat may take more moisture out and make is susceptible to cockling even more. Paper is made with a specific moisture content in it befitting to the environment it is to be used in. The watercolour paper above was manufactured for a dryer environment and not for UK use thus it cockled because it didn't have the right moisture content.

Re: RIPPLES
I have given chocolate up for lent.
I prefer Graysalchemy's optimistic answer.
I have a press but do not fancy de-tapping them.
The pictures have no real value they are from the books that come with these playstation games Tombraider etc.
I have underfloor heating in the main body of the house, I will try that.
As usual, thank you for you continued support. I may make a picture framer one day???

In that case, just drymount them and have done with it,

Re: RIPPLES
I often leave rippled / wavey paper between mountboard on top of the hotpress under several sheets of 3mm acylic as a weight.
I heat the hotpress & leave it so the heat makes its way through the paper, you know its ready as the mountboard starts to curl in the corners.
At this point I turn the hotpress off and leave it all until it turns back to room temperature.
This will improve things most of the time. Might not remove all the wave but definetly helps.
Works well at flattening those tightly rolled posters customers leave in the tubes for weeks before framing.

I think you'll struggle to get it back to normal. I'd always store things at room temperature (not garage temperature) if at all possible.
