THE GRUMBLE...

Post by 233ART »

Hi everyone...
This morning I thought that I would register on The Grumble.I filled in the reg form.Next came the "Random Question"."What is RAG board made from".I answered the question-"RAG board is made from 100% cotton fibres".I was told this was wrong, serveral times...
I re-worded the answer a number of times, without any luck...
Are these random question tricks...
I tried to contact them, but of course I couldn`t get past the random question to send the email...

I tried just cotton, rags, also cotton linters.Which I believe is an American word for rags...
If it`s that hard to register I don`t think I will bother...

Got to American to naturally think of cotton, could have been linen. I suppose it is the grade of cellulose/lignin you are looking for. I failed on that question some years ago and gave up.

The answers are one word only.

Of course now that the answer was posted on a PUBLIC forum, we will need to change the Q&A to something else :( (a spammer can now google grumble password to get the solution) No big deal, it was probably time to change it anyways :)

We use a similar scheme on the other forum at www.ppfacorner.com - but it uses a random rotation of four industry related questions. Something so simple helps to keep the spammers out.

This kind of question, posed at time of registration, is usually designed to filter out automated programs (spambots) rather than actual humans. The question posed need not be difficult: for example the spambot defeating question on theframersforum for many years was "What comes after 1018?". Even though that security question was asked and answered right here on the forum for all to see, it didn't trigger a spate of spambot (or undesirable human) registrations.

Rest easy, Mike, it is unlikely that The Grumble has been compromised by the revelation here.

im not worried about it :) But it should be changed anyways, as cotton has been the answer for 4 or 5 years now.

Have a great weekend
