What bugs you?
I am mid way through deciding which CMC machine I am going to squeeze into my cellar. I have been through threads asking which machine is best but I thought I might try a different angle -
What bugs you most about your CMC?
I am sure all the cmc's will all cut great mounts but does each machine have a little things that irritate?

I absolutely love my wizard 8000, but wish it did 90 degree outer cuts

Re: What bugs you?
Abacus, I guess you must have gone through the same thought process that I am now going through - is it worth an extra £5K for the 90 degree cuts!
With hindsight do you wish you had spent the extra, or have you equally enjoyed spending the £5K on something else!!

Re: What bugs you?
I have a Valiani iX vacuum. what bugs me? Not much to be honest. The machine does just about everything I want it to and I have a wide range of heads so can do lines - debossing - vgrooves etc etc. the pen head is generally good - would be perfect if it didnt overlap the lines on corners fractionally - not a problem with solid colours - but leaves a dark dot with translucent colours. The new software Vstudiois a vast improvement over FMD and improves with every update. slightly annoying problem picking up small shapes on complicated mounts - that may well be partly my lack of RAM - but wasnt a problem in FMD - but then FMD couldnt do such complicated mounts. The things I love far outweigh some petty niggles. Having the Vacuum bed makes cutting to the edge of the board a fantastic way of maximising your board usage.

Hi John
I was referring to the difference in price between the Wizard 8000 and 9000, though I guess there are options cheaper than the 9000 that will give 90 degree cuts.

Re: What bugs you?
I actually only paid less than £4k for a used machine from a forum member
If he'd have had a 9000 for £5k I would have bought that!
I still can't justify the outlay of a new machine, but if a 9000 came available I'd probably buy it and sell the 8000, if the price of the 9000 was around £5k hint hint, anyone?

Mark, so long as your computer has 4g of ram, most do now, increasing it will have no impact what so ever on v studio, we tested it up to 32 g

Re: What bugs you?
From your experience have you had any regrets buying secondhand rather than new? i.e. any problems from buying secondhand?Abacus wrote:I actually only paid less than £4k for a used machine from a forum member

Oh if the answer is no then in am in at £6K for that 9000
Re: What bugs you?
Nothing at all with mine except i wish I had a jumbo machine but that was my choice at the time and not a fault with trucut or their machine.
Re: What bugs you?
Oh - thats useful information. I have 4gb and had thought about increasing that. In that case picking up small design features is a bit of a pain - can be worked around by dragging a box around the selection but can be frustrating. No doubt it will be fixed in time.IFGL wrote:Mark, so long as your computer has 4g of ram, most do now, increasing it will have no impact what so ever on v studio, we tested it up to 32 g

Re: What bugs you?
No regrets about buying 2nd hand, I couldn't afford a new one, so it was 2nd hand or continue with the mat pro.

Re: What bugs you?
CMCs are tough.
Ours is 20 years old, we bought it second hand four years ago after a life of industrial use by a contract operation that churned out mounts by the thousands. In the time that we have had it it has performed flawlessly and rose to every challenge thrown at it every bit as well as if we had originally bought new at four times the price – no regrets here.

Re: What bugs you?
No regrets buying my second hand Wizard 8000,
bought off a framer who was closing his business, machine had minimal use,
The service you also get from Sam and the team at Framers Corner is superb.
I too couldn't afford or justify buying one at the cost new.

Re: What bugs you?
i bought a refurbished machine from Gunnar - brand new F1 head which does both beveled and straight cuts head - no regrets.
only thing i would say about the Wizard is i believe it wont cut the increasingly popular 3.5mm boards?
Regards,
Graham

Re: What bugs you?
We have the Wizard 8500E and the only niggle is occasionally the cut runs off which is rectified in minutes but an automatic type of tensioner would have been easier.
For my sins I own and operate
