When people are so sensitive about using tropical hardwoods etc (and rightly so), faux finishes such as mahogany and many others have been very benificial to me thats for sure. I disagree completely with the comment,made to make cheap timbers look good, but sure, these effects can used on any strata to be honest. Also, different effects of the timber itself can easily be achieved ie: flared mahogony.Quarter saw timber effects are also good to do especially using a faux oak. I will post a "birds eye maple" faux finish next time I'm required to use it unless I have a small sample somewhere. It's a nice effect to do. Some examples I have seen in the past have looked over worked and "clouded" but that's just my own personal view. We all have our own ways in achieving what we want. Like the scumbled finish prospero!
