The walk to this post, in the middle of a bog a long way above sea level - used to be my annual escape from it all.

Every April - in Llandrindod Wells, (near the source of the Severn) I would attend a reunion of ex sergeants' mess members from the Regiment I served 20 odd years with.

But now they have moved the venue to Cardiff - I attended the first one there last month but I don't think I'll attend any more.

I could go on (that really should be my signature line)

This is a place where I always like to walk and make photo's. We have a dessert just a few kilometers south of our house. It has it's own climate.
I like this photo to see the nice pastel-colors through the clouds.

Chanctobury ring is haunted - big time - took that shot as the sun was going down - got spooky feelings and legged it - well - pedalled it actually - still legs though.

Before I lived in the West Country, I spent a bank holiday weekend in Wiltyshire with some friends, and I had a similar photographic experience at Glastonbury Tor. I shot three rolls of film over the weekend, and the only photos that didn't come out were the ones I took of the tower on top of the Tor!

With regard to plant growth, the lore of Chanctonbury Ring is similar to our Faerie forts.

Nice panorama too.
Have you tried 'Autostitch' for stitching panoramas? It's a free program and works like a charm. It should join those photos for you without the noticeable first joint!
It's also very easy to use. The only option in it that I ever change is the size% depending on the intended usage.

Fabulous place - Yes

Lodger - Oh No.

Winter - The house is around 80 years old and was built using second hand timber. The construction is timber frame with tin sheet on the roof and walls. Inside is mainly pine tongue & groove. Apart from the small amount of insulation I fitted, there is none. In the winter the north wind finds its way through every hole and even under the carpet. The bathroom is uninsulated concrete blocks with an uninsulated fibre roof. Heat produced by coal fire, oil radiator & fan heaters pauses briefly inside the building before contributing to global warming. Kitchen is generally 2 degrees above ambient so I often put stuff into the fridge to warm it up. When I take a bottle of wine to someones house it puts "room temperature" into a whole new light.

None of this was planned, the idea was to live in the house for 6 months and then flatten it. Unfortunately things change so I have ended up living in it for 4 winters. However it will NOT see a fifth !. Anyone interested in the story can find more info on my website under diaries.

Anyway the good news is that the sun is shining and my living room is up to 20C so the winter blues are all forgotten.
