When you say brand new blades, have they ever been sharpened?
If they have been sharpened you need to check they have been hollow ground.

When you say "brand new blades" are they genuine Morso blades? Genuine blades have the word Morso stamped on them and month and year of manufacture e.g. 09/11 for the current month.
I have seen non genuine blades that have taken on a curve after sharpening.

Lion South supplied the new blades in August so I assume they're genuine and were sharpened correctly. Am I wrong to assume that?

The way to set the supports (IMHO) is to bring the blades down so they just bite and hold them there while you twiddle the screws. As soon as you feel resistance, that's the setting. On most mouldings, better to have them a shade too low then a shade too high.
You could try removing the blades and see if there is any gunk or a tiny bit of wood chipping underneath. If they aren't seated spot-on then that might cause the problem.

Morso blades are sharpened to the correct angle at the Morso factory so we can rule out badly sharpened blades.

I've been employing the method you describe Prospero but will perhaps try the supports a little lower rather than higher.
Does anyone have a view on how much play there should be in the rebate supports?

They do wobble about a bit. At least mine always have.
Shouldn't affect the hight setting though.
