An open book....

Post by Vince442 »

Hi Guys,

Have been asked to frame a book, open on a specific page in a box frame. I haven't done any of this type of work before.

I'm ok with doing the box frame but I'm struggling on what would be the best methods to:
a. keep the book in place
b. keep it on the specific page
c. anything that would be easy to overlook but is integral to doing something like this

Size of book will be 320mm x 210mm open and depth would be 40mm, so I'm guessing it won't be light either.

Any ideas etc would be most helpful.

For now, have a look at this https://www.preservationequipment.com/S ... Book-Stand and the associated products underneath.

I've heard tell that leaving a book open is a good way to knacker it. :? So if it's valuable, have a word with the customer first.

The things that PEL do offer full support (while laying horizontally, admittedly) there would be far more stress on the spine if it was open on a flat surface.

More thoughts on this http://www.thegrumble.com/showthread.ph ... ing-a-Book and (from 13 years ago) http://www.thegrumble.com/showthread.ph ... tique-Book

But of course, speak to the customer about value - monetary/sentimental/whatever - they may not give a toss! But even if they don't, a method of holding in place will be more reliable than adhesive, and Melinex is your versatile friend for something like this.
