Just got in a piece of Arqadia moulding (212111246) but in my wisdom I didn't check if I could cut it with my Morso! It appears that I need to raise the blades just less than an inch in order to cut the width. I can see, attached to the top cutting block, there's a vertical rod thing with a nut/thread on the bottom (these are probably the wrong terms entirely). Am I right in assuming that I can adjust the blade height by adjusting this bottom nut and as long as the blade(s) dissappear whilst cutting I'm alright??. Apologies if this makes no sense

You assume correctly. Just be aware that if you raise them too much the very front(where they join) of the blades might not go all the way down. It's usually a trade off between getting the extra height and cutting all the way through.

It is possible to cut wider mouldings on the Morso by taking a few cuts then moving your moulding across , shaving off the edge , you can also accurately measure by working out the difference from what notch you have moved it from.

That probably makes no sense, I am sure someone who isn't dyslexic will explain better, if not and if I get time (busy dose not come close) I will post pics for your viewing pleasure

I know exactly what you mean but wouldn't know how to explain it any better.

Have you taken the Nut&Bolt thingy off the front of the machine, just above the pedal, (as circled in image) you can normally gain an inch by taking that out first before adjusting the main height of the cutting head

I think 4 1/4" is about the max width you can physically get in a Morso. But as you observe, you can't actually perform a full cut on most mouldings of this width. And as stated, even if you raise the block by twitching up the pedal tie-bar, you get to the point where the blades don't reach the bottom. Taking off the pedal stop will gain you a bit more scope. You can use your foot hooked under the pedal to lift the block to it's max hight.
The sideways technique is a sneaky way and works fine. It's a bit of a pain as you can't use the measuring stops in quite the same way. Also on wide, deep mouldings the first bite is sometimes too much of a mouthful. I sometimes ease this by cutting a triangle out of the waste part first with a handsaw.

Ignore me, I was just trying to be funny They say sarcasm is the lowest form of humour and in this case I agree - I was referring to the edited red circle on the morso pic. Hope I didn't offend because I do appreciate the helpful reply

You can also gain extra height by moving the spring positions on the treadle bar (if you havent already).

Can you??? Good to know, cheers. I've done that nut adjustment thing and I've gained enough. If I need more I'll take a look at the springs. Appreciate the tip

Seriously if you are really brave you can mod the tooth arc or handle to allow a bit more rear horizontal head travel.........just be very careful the head does not fall off the back...........!!

The saws that I want are just crazy money I do have a old saw at home, tried that in the early days but the cuts were nowhere near good enough for framing. Fine for household stuff though - still use it at home for stuff
