Cutting extra thick mounts

Hi,

I had to frame a ready mounted print today and it was mounted in an extra thick black core mount. I don't why, but I can't recall ever seeing an extra thick black core mount before, it was really stunning. So I'm going to buy some with my next mountboard order.

However, the real point was to ask how do you get really great results cutting extra thick mounts? I always find it somewhat time consuming, what with changing the blade depth and changing it back afterwards. To date I have found it best to start the cut well before I really need to, but not go in to the full depth until the stop finger reaches the edge of the mountboard.
