A client has four large Samuri Warrior paintings (approx 27.5 x 84.5cm respectively) on double layered silk and previously mounted in four double mount arrangements (37.5 x 95.0cm each) but has asked if it is possible to do anything about the level of creasing that is still evident on the visible material. What advice can I offer her to achieve a smooth finish?

I think you might need to put some pictures up.

You can only tension it as much as the bottom layer will allow, I have in the past padded them out by un stitching the bottom layer added the wadding then re stitch, but only with the express permission from the owner.

I usually tension silk as follows:
Cut a window into a piece of foam core a little larger than the window in the mount, note a straight cut window not bevelled
Place the silk over the foam core drop out and centre
Place the remaining foam core (ie piece with hole in) over the silk/drop-out combination and gently ease down.

The tight fit should create a small but sufficient tension to reduce creasing.
