Hi All
We have been asked to frame a pen (writing) but it stumps us on how to do this without damage to item. Knowing the vast amount of experience out there I hope someone will be able to give me their experiences or options.
I will of course share images of the final product.
Regards

Wow, prompt response
The pen is about 10 cm long and standard diameter. It is a gift from the president of the US with his signature engraved upon it, I will attempt to upload photos. Mylar straps, unsure?

basically you should be able to cut very fine straps of mylar (also called melinex) and have a very thin slot in mountboard, and go around pen, through slot and tape on the back to hold in place

There is some very fine copper wire that is used in electrical transformers and such. It's very strong and very fine - hardly thicker than a hair. What's more it's lacquer coated so it shouldn't react with anything and a brown colour rather than shinny metal. I've used it for mounting things.
If the pen is an unscrewable type you could unscrew it wrap this wire around the middle and screw it up again. With maybe a loop around the end to stabilise it. Has it got a pocket clip?

Hi
Sorry still unable to upload photos, it is a small pen which simply pulls out of itself and allows you to fit cap onto top . Poor description I know sorry.
Thanks for all advice.

As discussed.
One side has the president and the other his wife. It has come with an array of other thanks of gratitude to the owner.

I agree with Steve (stcstc) that Mylar straps would do it. Photo shows potato peeler we had to frame. Spot the mylar

Are you going to have a double sided frame to see both sides?

Hi
No the chap only wants the president signature which is good as there are about 5 other items to include in the frame.

With it being so shiny melinex straps would be ideal, the only problem could be the slight possibility of it sliding out, but to prevent that, and maybe to make it look even better, I'd mount it with the cap fitted to the top to show the nib, then two straps, one on the barrel near the cap and one over the nib housing, whatever that bit's called. You could even use a strap the whole length of the barrel, from one end to the cap, that would be even harder to see if not impossible to.
Use two slits per strap as far apart as possible whilst remaining concealed by the pen, to prevent movement.
If it were mine I'd want to touch and feel it now and again, use it even, and would be looking at a frame that allowed access from the front, which would be another ball game re mounting, like, maybe, formed rods - sort of custom-made cup hooks it would just sit on.
