Just a "quickie" has anyone cut 2mm foamex on a ValianiI Mat Pro CMC
I have a customer who just wants oval blanks
Thanks Keith
Cutting 2mm foamex
Re: Cutting 2mm foamex
Ive only cut strips with 90 degree head - but would have thought you could get a good result with normal head. Use a new blade as foamex filling can drag a bit if the blade is a bit dull.
Re: Cutting 2mm foamex
Thanks Mark
How are you doing and thanks for replying
Are you confusing foamex with foamcore ? the foamex is like a plastic sheet that the sign writers use.
Since posting I have just cut an oval, (with a dual pass) and slowed the head right down and it seemed OK, but as he wants 50 at a time it would take an age to do them at the speed I used. So I don't know if an increase in speed could potentially cause any harm to the machine hence my post to see if anyone has cut the foamex without any problems.

Re: Cutting 2mm foamex
It shouldn't damage the stepping motors by trying, might make a lot of horrible noise, I think the biggest danger would be plastic shavings getting it the bearings, which would do them no good at all.
I use foamex often and considered cutting it on the cmc for about 3 seconds, then decided against it, let us know how you get on.

Hi
I regularly use Daler 2.6 and the machine cuts it with ease, so i tried cutting the foamex by hand with the hand cutter that Valiani supplied and also the 2.6 board and the foamex was easier to cut by far.
With this in mind I set the cut at normal speed and cut 2 blanks with no problem at all, no shavings either..one I cut with a dual pass and the other with one pass, needless to say the dual pass was cleaner.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Cutting 2mm foamex
Which head did you use, was it the 90 degree grey head?
