label in sports shirt

I have been asked to frame a rather special sports shirt, signed by an Olympic medallist. When I started working on it, I noticed the size label at the back of the neck. What do you guys do in that situation? Cut it out or leave it; cutting it out would leave a small frayed stump, which I think would look a bit tatty. Obviously I can't cut it without consulting the customer.
Thanks
Anji

Cover the opening with a shaped piece of mountcard

Most times we leave it as it is part of the shirt, but we do check with the customer if they are happy for us to do that and if they particularly want it removed then we would do that.

Agreed cover it with a shaped board in a different colour if you can. Better not to cut the label, leave everything intact and work around it.

Have you ever seen anyone cut the labels off from an expensive designer fashion item. Of course not, they want everyone one to see that they have got the genuine item and it's all about status. The label is an integral part of the authentic item and there to be shown off.
Removing the label deminishes the originality and therefore it could be considered as no longer perfect, or complete and therefore less desireable, or less valueable.
I would leave the label clearly visible for all to see that it's the real thing.

Think we're talking a size label here - like S,M,L,XL,XXL etc. Otherwise what's it going to say? Reebok, Nike Adidas etc. Not Louis Vuitton or Prada!
Size can be included on designer label though I suppose. We rarely remove them and if we do we unpick them, not cut them - most people don't have a problem with seeing them, no-one's wearing the garment and that's just how it looks in that case. They are also handy for concealing a stitch/tag, or even, if they are made from a loop, for putting a stitch/tag through.
