Steel rule

Post by Roboframer »

I want a 24" flat, thin steel rule - one inch wide.

Actually I have one - no TWO!!

The first I have had for some time - It's metric and imperial on the same side - metric on top and imperial underneath - both measure left to right.

Now surely we all use the calibrations on the TOP edge of the rule, not the bottom, so, when you turn this thing around so that imperial is on the top, it starts at 24" and the numbers are upside down! They should have printed the imperial the other way around.

But last week I was in a local office supplies store and saw a rule that was printed metric on one side and imperial on the other - WAHAY!! -bought it.

But when I came to use it I found the imperial side had a top and a bottom, just like my old ruler. Along the top the calibrations were in 1/10ths, along the bottom, going the same way - was what I wanted - 1/16ths, 1/8ths and 1/4s. So when I turn it over, it starts at 24" on the left and is upside down. Bummer!

Anyone know a source for a good skinny steel rule where such calibrations go L-R along the top???[/

I put the corner of a steel rule into a customers stretched canvas once :(
ever since then we have used the plastic variety. Trouble is, they are also marked in 10ths rather than fractions.
