Does anyone have a go to mount board and type of frame they favour for b&w photos? is there a preference of white over cream? Also frame choice, is a black frame standard in this situation?

There's probably no actual black or white in the photo - the 'cop out' is a white/off white mount and a black frame, try the opposite a not black but charcoal mount and a silver frame.

You can't really lump all bw photos together and come up with a magic colour that suits them all. The content of the photo is the main consideration.

Sure I appreciate these comments, but currently I am limited on deliveries and am not able to order mount board as and when I like. I would usually order very specific mount board per item having been matched up especially for it. Currently I need to order some basics colours to keep me going so I can continue to practise and work on my framing skills. This is for my own use not for customers/selling on etc. The grey and silver sounds good though

When I did my framing course end of last year, I took an old Signed Liverpool press photo to be my project for the course.

I initially when for the typical White mount and black frame, but it wasn't until the framer brought out the other colours that I saw what people mentioned above. I ended up with an off white and grey double mount, and a silver frame. Looks the bees knees and very happy with it!

One of my favourites is Crescent 61088 'Mist' blackcore. It seems to work with most photos - colour as well. It's not to light, not too dark. Quite warm in tone. The black core works well with bw stuff if it has a white border. If not, a double mount with white beneath does it.

Plain, flat Ash moulding, with a just off white multiple mount to give shadow effects but no extra colours, with generous borders, serves to look smart and neat, but because of the neutral tones doesn't overpower the subject matter.

Cheers old master I will give that layout a try. I often look to produce a double mount of various colours out of habit/lack of experience but a double mount in the same colour sounds rather sophisticated! I am also drawn to plain would mouldings with a simple stain or wax.

I did a introduction to frame building course with a Guild commended framer.

Whilst I had read the theory I thought it was worth paying the money for some hands on training. Taught me things I wouldnt have thought about otherwise and always good to use various machinery before buying!

No need to stick to just doublemounts in the same colour - triples and quads work even better- paricularly if you vary the amount of undermount showing.

Indeed, that's must look really impressive. It would be great to see some examples.
