I joined The Framers Forum approximately three years ago. I asked many questions, as one does when knowing little or nothing about the subject in hand. And received much valuable advice ---- for which I was, and am, immensely grateful.
In the interim I have sought to apply what I have learned from the advice provided. And what I have learned from getting it wrong - mostly in only marginal matters, but annoyingly so, nevertheless. Oh, and occasionally from getting it right, too.
I now have a reasonable understanding of which framing profiles sell well, and which would linger in stock were I sufficiently unwise to purchase in bulk. I understand, sufficient to provide reasonably accurate advice to the customer, in matters pertaining to types of glass, mountboard and backing board.
I have experimented with all manner of different formats of mount. Some successful, and some less so.
I have changed my old imperial Morso F for a relatively modern metric model. I have a a nice Fletcher 1100 oval mount cutter and a Fletcher 2100 rectangular mount cutter (still mounted vertically on an 'A' frame against a wall)
And I now have the 1M underpinner.

Far be it from me to suggest that I am now of age, and a thoroughly experienced picture framer; but I do feel that my preliminary learning is at least nearing completion. I am now a lot more confident about advising customers and providing direction and inspiration --- rather that being grateful for the simple jobs and hoping that the customer wouldn't recognize my inexperience and ineptitude.

I look forward to participating again within the forum, confident that I now have a little more idea of what I may be talking about.

Thank you each.
I suspect that I may still be asking questions occasionally, and benefiting form your wisdom and experience. :)
But hopefully I would like to be able to contribute positively too.

Good on you, Mr Bloke.

I hope I know what you know in another two years and eight months (and have your humility)!!
