Witness a shoplifter stealing an oil painting from our gallery and then hanging one back in its place, really quite carefully!

wow  that is seriously blatant, they really didn't care about the cameras being there at all. We will keep an eye out for those two in case they are travelling around the West Country.

We were caught napping slightly  but this is the first shoplifting we've had in over 15 years. But shows a £350 set of camera's were worth investing in!
Can't say too much at moment because the perpetrators have yet to be apprehended, but these two have committed crimes the length and breath of the country and were known to be in Devon only last week.

Just shows if you don't act suspiciously you can get away with just about anything. What I do with small valuable pieces is to wind a bit of thin wire around the cord and loop it under the hook. Sure, they can untwist it but very few folks would bother. It may appear to be some cunning alarm system. Having said that, a guy nicked a 5x4ft framed and glazed pic from a gallery in Lincoln and made a getaway on his bike. Didn't get too far. I think he was three-parts p'ed. :giggle:

That's some bare faced cheek there and no mistake. Let's hope the pair of them get caught.

Just heard on the news about that guy that stole that 40K Statue from a gallery in London, the MO seems the same statue under coat on his arm, and

With a haircut he could be the same guy.

When I heard it on the news coming in I thought that was so similar to what happened at Wills gallery, and then looking at the pictures he isn't too dissimilar.

A very odd thing to steal. Very difficult to sell, unlikely to make much if they do sell it. At a car boot sale it's a £10 picture; small country saleroom that doesn't list its stock online £50 if you're very lucky. To get anything like what it might be worth you'd have to sell it through a decent auction house. Or, I suppose, to another gallery dealing in the artist. And still you'll probably not get much more cash.

They'd have been better off stealing the camera system!

You right and guess that's why pictures aren't stolen often.
I have registered the picture on Art Loss Index, which most the better auction houses use. I've also circulated all the dealers in Ann Cotteril I can think of.
If any body uses Facebook and is happy to share an image of the picture I'd be most grateful, just search for Courtyard Framing

At £25 per search (unless there are bulk search terms) I doubt they'd use it for this...

I think the bigger auction houses use it, but fair point. Just trying to make the picture worthless to the criminals

This pair are known to have committed crimes in several constabularies around the country

If you use Facebook be very grateful if you could share a post regarding this crime

Many thanks

The male has yet to be arrested, and could be anywhere so keep your eyes peeled!

Astonishing.

Beyond belief! It will, however, be evidence so you won't get it back for months. And by then it will have been pawed over in the jury room too. :head: :head:

That's excellent news Framerpicture  , you must be relieved and pleased. The right result for once and hopefully with the evidence from the theft at your place and the other thefts they were involved with, this won't be too drawn out and you will get your picture back very soon.

Jamesnkr - seriously, try to look on the bright side occasionally :sun:  :giggle:
