I just got a brand new Framers Corner gun for £28 delivered, inc 2500 points.

Metal construction, takes flexis or rigid, and you can alter the oomph easily for different mouldings.

I'm chuffed with it.

Well used Fletcher point guns go for about £30 each, two separate guns for flexis and rigids.

I know they have history behind them, (I have the two!) but if I was buying now I think the Framers Corner single gun would make better economic sense, as long as it stood the test of time.

You're absolutely right; and if it conks out quickly, it'll be no bargain at all (like you say, time will tell).

I realise there's a reason why the Fletchers are £75 quid and this one is £22.....the former is the mutt's nuts and proven!

But for where I am, I thought it'd be worth a go. Considered the Inmes, but that just looks too plasticky (could be wrong, frequently am!).

I've shot 5000 points out of my Framers Corner. I have recently upgraded to a Fletcher so I have a spare; the idea of a failure at midnight fills me with dread... and the Framers Corner doesn't feel that well engineered.

Has the Framers Corner failed on you, James? Be interested to know what went kaput on it.

Nothing wrong with it. But I'd always felt it was the weak link in my framing chain.

May I ask why?

Not trying to be contrarian or argumentative......just curious as to why you think it's inferior.

I have used both, but only because the Framers Corner started jamming after a couple of years so I then bought the Fletcher! The Framers Corner is fine for the occasional framer (which is what I was and hence why I bought it in the first place) but, in my opinion, if you need to use it most days it is better to invest in the Fletcher. The Fletcher is now 3 years old and, touch wood, is as good as the day it arrived (providing I occasionally tighten a couple of screws!).

The Fletcher gun is outstanding, if properly maintained, we have a number of them, maybe 7 or 8 not sure really, I tried the frames corner manual gun, we got 2 of them to try, ended up sat on the shelf, sold one gave the other away, we also have framers corner pneumatic point guns, these have been outstanding our Omar gun has not been used since purchasing these, although the alpha points are far superior to the framers corner ones which are awful.

I never did try the alpha points in the manual gun, can someone try this and let us know if this makes a reasonable gun.

For what it is worth my opinion on the best functional and value for money is the black Fletcher gun, the points are absolutely solid it is fast, the tabs fire in flat no having to bend them down afterwards, they are much more solid than other points so you use less = better value, even though per tab they maybe more, you do however have to replace the main spring perhaps ever other year to keep it in tip top condition, about £3 very easy to do, although my background is mechanical so might not be so simple for some.

Now I know how to change the spring, does anyone know where to purchase said spring(s)?

The only place I have found online is http://www.ukframingsupplies.net and they are out of stock.

Considering their price is £0.50 per spring +VAT, I don't suppose they will be in a rush to restock them,
so is there another stockist anyone knows of?

I usually pull the whole gun apart, give is a clean and a bit of lube.

It's just not as well engineered. The Fletcher is a joy to use; one of those things where I pick it up and think 'a well made piece of kit.' It's like comparing driving a Mercedes with a Vauxhall.
