Alloy stretchers

Post by GeoSpectrum »

I've just had a lady on the 'phone enquiring about frames and she said she had alloy stretchers on her canvases. I've heard of them but never seen a canvas stretched with them. How does one go about fixing the ally stretchers into the frame, either on a normal lipped frame or inlay frame?

You could use canvas offsets from Lion (https://www.lionpic.co.uk/search?q=offs ... Search+Now) but I guess you'd have to drill the metal stretchers and use self-tapping screws to fix into them.

Yes, it was the drilling I'm not sure about, normal fitting methods such as offsets would do the job I guess.

For floaters you really have no option but to drill. But aluminium is soft so I would think woodscrews would do the job just the same as wood.
