Keencut Futura problem

Post by GeoSpectrum »

IVe not used my Futura for a while and I came to cut a couple of mounts on it today and noticed that the under/over cut adjuster on the cutter head was at its maximum adjustment and had to be in order for me to cut a mount, moving the micro adjuster back to the central position results in horrendous over cuts at the start of cut. I can't think how it has happened, perhaps it has been knocked out of adjustment. CAn anyone suggest away of getting thing back to factory settings so I can reset the calibration? I'll be in touch with Keencut tomorrow.

Not used a manual mount cutter for years but the other factor involved in over and under cutting is blade depth, has the blade dropped lower?

The blade is a fraction below the central setting on the holder.

Have you changed your mount board? Mount board thickness can vary between batches.

No, but not enough surely to get 5mm over cut?

With the mount you want to cut on the bed, press the blade down just in front of the mount.... the blade should only just be entering the slip mat by about .5mm. My blades are only just touching the 3 dots mark.

I think you may have the blade too deep. Are you getting hooking too? usually happens when blade is too deep.

I don't use the Futura any more but I vaguely remember having to move the yellow measurement scale at one stage, it must have slipped a couple of mill, when I had a micro adjuster at its extreme setting?

That was how you adjusted the old non gold/futura ultimat, by moving the scale to the stop instead of vice-versa, so if your scale moves (slides) do that. If it's stuck on then that's not so easy.

I've not heard back from Keencut which is disapointing, but I imagine that is what I need to do. The micro adjuster is turned to over its maximum of 5mm, just to get a start of cut with no overcut.

I reckon your machine might need squaring - I posted something about squaring on general section today (27.6.16).

I squared my machine (not as simple as it seems). I had trouble trying to set the limit stops, probably as machine wasn't square, and remember my end of cut (red) stop was at it's limit. Not sure why (seemed a good idea at the time), but I re-set both red & green stops to centre position.

After the machine was squared I just needed slight adjustments of the stops. Before squaring I just seemed to be setting the stops backwards and forwards and getting nowhere

I really suggest you check your machine is square, as if not you'll end up going nuts!

I was having similar problems with my new Futura. It was the depth of the blade which i had to far out. Reset to just scoring the undermat and hey presto no problems
