Sub Frames

Post by lars13 »

Hello,

Im pretty new to framing and need to make a sub frame for a frame im making.

Basically I was wondering what i the best way to measure and fit a sub frame?

I literally know nothing so any good links, tips or references points would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Maybe you could let us know a bit more information regarding the frame and why it needs a sub frame...guessing because of size?

You can find many tutorials on youtube. As per my view Youtube is the best teacher for anything.

I would agree with that. I repaired my mobile phone with the help of Youtube. :D

Also got some good recipes. :P

Unfortunately, the only subframe tuts are for cars. :(

Unless anyone knows different.

I recon there's an opportunity for decent and a wide ranging framing videos on You Tube. Remember the Franing Mentor? A member of this Forum who set up a website offering just that, but the model was wrong, he wanted people to pay upfront and as far as I'm aware no one did. I recon the YouTube model of advertising is better, get enough subscribers and views and it can work. If only I had the time...

Ah, that's what happened to him. A shame as his posts on here were generally pretty good.

I don't think you'd get enough views on YouTube for picture framing. You need tens - if not hundreds - of thousands of views to make it worth producing a decent film, surely.

Because YouTube is basically open to all you get a mixed bunch.

Some of the framing stuff is made by equipment manufacturers and is aimed at professional framers.

A lot is made by happy dabblers (or art teachers :o ) and is mostly ill-informed or downright inept. :?

The trick is to know the difference.

There are times when I use another frame moulding, or a piece of timber from the local hardware shop as a sub-frame. I don't stock sub-frames mouldings, so it's often less hassle to use something else.
