Underpinner problems

Post by Framing Frenzie »

Hi. I have a Minigraf 4 Alfamacchine underpinner. It's started making a leaking air sound. Just a hiss at first but develops into a squeal like a balloon being let down slowly. My compressor keeps trying to top it up. If I use the machine there seems to be no loss in performance and actually stops the noise for a few seconds then it builds again. Please can anyone advise me if there is something I can do or if I need an expert. While I am asking for help, my size 10 block/wedges have been mis-firing for a while now. Does some within the setting but not all of them. I've inspected the block and it's clean. I've oiled it a bit from the outside but daren't take it to bits. All the other blocks/wedges work fine. Help with this too would be most appreciated. Thanks.

CAn you identify actually were the his is coming from is it from the air connection or is it inside. It may just be a lose seal on a pipe but it could also be the seals on the piston. If you want expert advice I would contatct Neil Stout at Framingengineer.com he may be able to advise you over the phone.

Thanks for your reply. It seems to be coming from the cylinder/valve things at the side. Sorry for the girly description. Will see if anyone else has any thoughts and ring the man you mentioned if not. Thanks again.

If it is the cylinder then I would ring Neil. You may have to leave him a message but he will get back to you.

When you say it goes quiet when you use the machine... what is the exact action you undertake that causes silence?

(You may well have long-since sorted the problem.)

Hi. Thanks for your message. It was when I pinned a frame, so using the foot peddle. I have had an engineer out to it today and he has fitted a new regulator. All quiet now. Thanks for taking the time to reply though.

Glad to hear it. Mine leaks in a couple of places, but I live with it.
