Sending pictures throught the post

Post by Mr.E.Rep »

Having relocated to concentrate on framing last year, we still have quite a number of prints (mounted and loose) and framed pictures in stock which we no longer have gallery space for and would very much like to wipe off the balance sheet.
I'm looking into what's involved in setting up an online shop and would very much appreciate any input - especially as techno-stuff is not my strong point!
Also, whilst we've sent the odd small framed and glazed picture through the post successfully in the past, to do so with larger and heavier pictures seems fraught with problems. I wonder if anyone knows of i) a packing method which works well and ii) a carrier who specialises in carriage of glazed artwork at reasonable prices?

If it's just a matter of clearing stock, I would consider unframing the framed pictures and sell them like that.
Of course it depends on how much framed stuff you have, but glazed frames take a lot of packing
and then there is the hassle of breakages, etc. It might be more economic to sell the contents and
knock out the empty frames for whatever you can get for them locally.

Just a thought.

Thanks for those suggestions. I'll have a look at the carriers referred to - as for the idea of 'de-framing' the pictures, Ii hadn't really thought of that...but it maybe an option to consider and offer as part of the presentation. Potential buyers might well prefer to choose their own framing on receipt of the mounted prints anyway - good thinking prospero
