Hello everyone
Newby framer here.
Just wanted advice on cutting Blackcore mount board. I have a Platinum Edge Mat Cutter, almost a £1000 worth of equipment, but I'm having problems with the cutter.
The cutter (the angled blade side for window mounts) struggles to cut all the way through Blackcore Snow White mount board, the white layer doesn't seem to cut? I've had to cut along the same line several times to go all the way through? I've tried adjusting the blade dept, changed the blade for new one, changed the slip mat. It still doesn't cut the Black core all the way through, I don't have this problem with the white/white core mount boards.
Thank you and all advice is appreciated.

I find the same problem with solid black... I've got a keencut Futura. It seems the solid black is a tad thicker and a lot denser and will cut one mount on a new blade but the second one won't go all the way through and it's always the 4th cut
I now use a new blade for every mount... blades are cheaper than board.
Can cut about 6 or 7 mounts in 'normal' board on one blade.

Probably doesn't help using Logan equipment which is aimed at the hobby market. Been there, done that. Get a Keencut.

Re: Cutting through Blackcore mount board
The blurb about the Platinum Edge Mat Cutter says it cuts both 4 ply and 8 ply so you'd think it should cut OK if you've tried it with an 8 ply blade/setting. I'd check what ply the black core is and if it's 8 ply or under and won't cut with the 8 ply blade/setting, I'd contact Logan to seek their advice.

You have all been very helpful, I will contact Logan for help. I'll do some research into the Keencut as well, but probably won't replace for a few years. I've spent too much on the equipment I have already.
Thank you all.
Thank you all.

I've tried that, still doesn't cut all the way through. Plus, I have to adjust the blade back for the other mount boards so i don't have huge over cuts.
Thanks for the advise.

Only take about 10 seconds to alter the depth of blade, but back to the subject, as been said use a brand new blade, extend as also been suggested, when cutting you will need to use a lot of down ward force, some times when using a manual moutcutter to do blackcore I used to out the mountcutter on the floor, then use both hands on the cutting block, lean over the mountcutter so all your weight is over the cutting black, what I found was the the bar which the cutting block travelled was bending up because of the resistance of theblack core so the blade was not cutting all the way through, use knee pads
