Hello everyone I have made a few posts already but would like to introduce my Wife and I, My name is Paul and my wife is Lorrain we live in Birchington kent. we have recently bought professional equipment from a local retiring framer that consists of a Morso F, foot overrated under pinner, Keencut Ultimat Futura, good selection of frames, matt boards,
and 3 x Fletchers etc.
We are using a spare room in our house as a workshop, the plan is for my wife to to this so she could retire from part time nurseing, I currently work as a self employed gas engineer but have found my self quite interested in framing and if it became viable would like to cross over to this first on a 50/50 split with my current occupation, not expecting to make a fortune just a living and work satisfaction.

Paul & Lorraine,

Good luck with this new venture. It sounds like you are preparing yourself with professional equipment and that is good!

Be sure to charge enough for your work! Despite being a labour of love, (you mention a new found job satisfaction), this actually works against many framers, small, large, home-based or high street -- They simply do not charge enough for what they are providing. Sad, but very true on both sides of the pond.

John

Hi Paul and Lorrain,
Welcome to the Forum, there are no daft questions on here...

I started along the same lines as yourself, full time gas engineer and low volume picture framer.
During my gas job I started picture framing, so that when I retired I was fully up and running framing.
It was very slow to begin with, but slowly it turned around with word of mouth and I'm now at a stage that I'm as busy as I want to be.
Good luck in your spare room, you'll very soon out grow it, but my advice is if picture framing is for you get yourself a bespoke studio and your customers will love coming to have their work framed.
