O.K., so you order all your sundries on eBay. What happens when everybody buys all their sundries on eBay and our normal suppliers find that the sundries part of the market is no longer viable?

If they can't provide a financially viable supply chain for sundries, then they'll have to cut them from their inventory...

IMHO I don't think that's likely to happen,

I can understand someone who is just starting out as a framer and on a learning curve spending say £30 or so on eBay for a small selection of hardware. Brass/bronze/nickel D rings, different cord/wire, strap hangers etc.

However, once they get going and decide what they need to stock and what they don't require to stock they will purchase their D rings/cord etc. by the 500/1000's and complete rolls. Also, they will soon workout the price advantage of buying larger quantities and meeting minimum orders will be easier

I think you reach the point where you can't be bothered to save 70p on 100 D-rings...

While I was waiting for my Lion delivery with only one double d-ring to my name I thought I would resort to
plan B. I had a big box where I had saved all the orphan hangings in. Bits of cord/wire with d-rings on the end
that I couldn't be arsed to untangle but hadn't the heart to chuck. I kept them for the day when I was in dire
need of a d-ring. The day had arrived. There must have been 20+ years worth. So I set to with pliers and labouriously
liberated all the rings from the cords/wires. Fiddly job. I yielded a big plastic pot full.

That was a nice story wasn't it?

It certainly was a lovely story and with a happy ending

Blimey! That's a lot cheaper than I was expecting!

For two bits of metal, some metal bars and a sponge on a roller in a plastic tub it's still pretty pricey...

My little licky machine is a bit more complex. It's got a handle.

As for pricey, it cost me about £400 and that was back in the '80s. It's earned it's keep though.

I can't remember what I paid for my second gummed paper dispenser, but my first on was definately at least £40 about seventeen years ago. I had no idea that they could be obtained cheaper at the time.

Been thinking If I buy 1000 D rings instead of 500 I save 7 quids and up the moulding order to 100ft that's another 20% that makes the order carriage paid (10 more quids saved) Now I have saved enough to buy the cheapo tape wetter

Hang on. If I don't buy the tape wetter and stick to my empty Chinese take away dish and sponge I save another 25 quids

Problem I have now is what to spend all this saved money on

Sounds like a nice problem to have!

BTW, Having bought that gummed tape dispenser, these days I mostly only use it for wetting hinging tape. I did buy a second one when I had an assistant working for me. The second one hardly got used at all, so much for good ideas at the time! I've been mainly using self adhesive tape for the backs of frames for some time now.
