Hi
I have had a few customers unable to join the profile attached successfully.
Once joined (with underpinning) and the glue has set there is still movement which then causes a hairline crack once the frame is coloured.

The moulding is about 2" wide

Any advice please

Hi Ross

If I had your issue i would be inclined to try;

Apply glue then clamp as tight as pos' in a band or tourneque type clamp then underpin and leave in the clamp untill the glue is cured.

The position, and how you stack, as well as the size of the vnails must be considered.

It's all to do with the moisture content in the wood.

If the moulding has been in a cold environment (unheated warehouse/shed) it will have a higher moisture content than
a heated place. Particularly this time of year. Wood shrinks/expands across the grain direction. The wider the moulding
the more movement.
It's a good idea to bring the moulding into a warm room and leave it for several days before cutting. That way it will normalise
and won't shrink after joining. Bit of a pain, but it's the only way to be sure.

I agree all recommendations above and i will add that for a moulding in this size i always like to add a biscuit joint done with a thin router bit, beside keeping the band clamp until glue dry.
