Underpinner help (Alfamachines Minigraf 44)

I have an issue with an Alfamachines Minigraf 44.

I purchased the unit second hand and when I had my morso installed that chap kindly installed the underpinner and gave it a service. He advised that it needed a new hammer, so sent that to me and I installed that ok. The vertical pressure regulator was loose so tried to tighten it and snapped it. So ordered a new one of Lion and installed it tonight.

While it does work a lot better, whatever I try (with pressure etc) I cannot get the v wedge to go in as far as id like for a clean finish. I have had the Minigraf machines in the past so know what they can do.

I don’t, however know how to adjust this to push the nail in further – please see attached image. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Of course I mean underpinner not underpinned - combination of keyboard error and auto correct - unfortunately, I can't see how to edit a title !

Really daft question but

What pressure is the machine currently set to? I only see this when the pressure in my lines drop and in turn the pressure in the machine.

I tend to operate within the 3-4 bar range and turn the pressure up for harder woods.

I suppose the other daft question is ... are the v-nails the right way up ?

Thanks

Daft question?

When you replaced the hammer did you fit it the correct way round? the earlier Minigraf hammers had a flat top which could be oriented either way but the newer hammers have a raised lip which must face toward the wedges.

That is a very interesting point, I know I pushed the hammer up so I could see the tip coming out of the carriage - and I saw it fitted in ok - I have to be honest and say I didn't check the lip on the hammer to see which way round it was pointing - I suppose the only way of finding out is to replace the hammer and rotate it 180 degrees - thank you will try that

Hi,
I had a similar problem and it was stupidly simple but not obvious.
Does the moulding move upwards as the wedge starts to travel ?
This did not happen on deeper mouldings for me, try that.
It turned out to be that the support plunger arm that came down to
stop the moulding from rising whilst the pin was inserted was at the end of its
physical travel limit in the position it was in.
Re-adjust so it has further down travel available .
