Hand Framed oil on canvas

As there has been a few people posting and asking about hand finished frames recently, i thought i would show my latest frame.

I had 3 days to turn this around and it was for someone on the top board of McDonald's (hoping payment is free burgers for life!).

It is Rose and Hollis A168, no stacking etc needed. Jointed and sanded making sure any glue cleaned and sanded. Then stained using van dyke crystals. The whole frame gets stained. Once dried, i used liberon gilt cream (with ref to another post, i like slips, but doing this gives that effect).

Once dried, the stain was given a liberon mahogany wax, as i wanted a reddish finish similar to cricket pavilion.

Buffed and done.

Not the most complicated, but customer likes it and i didn't have time to get overly complicated, but customer likes it so job done.

Great Frame.

A168 is a very handy moulding. Generous size and not-too-dear.

I would have added a narrow bevelled liner, painted off-white.

Thanks for comments.

Yes A168 is always handy to have in stock. Rose and Hollis have another similar wide moulding PP 301 which is a decent one to have handy.

I may have gone with a liner prospero (if i had not used it all up previously) but i thought it may overcomplicate. I could have machined some but i was tight for time. I think probably an off white liner may have given a more traditional finish which may well have worked.

I have some oils of swimming swans which require a traditional frame so they will certainly benefit from off white liner so will post results when done.

Very nice frame and impressive time scale

Looking forward to seeing the one with the liner.

Peter.

FWIW. My recipe for off-white liners. After filling grain and priming with ripple paint, a couple of coats of 50/50
Titanium White/Titanium Buff. When dry, apply a liberal coat of very diluted Raw Umber with a dab of white it
and wipe lengthways while it dries. That just knocks the glare off and stops it 'shouting'. Dishcloths are the best
for the wiping off. I don''t try to get it dead smooth but leave a little bit of grain showing.

Thanks for that. I will give that method a go.

Lovely frame and effect. Need to try some of this gilt cream.

(The painting did remind me of our recent travesty of playing a test match in NZ though!)
