After the speech from the chancellor, I was just wondering if someone like Steve Spit would be changing that message that he'll have a beer please. (Maybe "I'll have half a beer please")

No chance!

'I'll have a beer please' suggests that someone else is buying anyway  :D

Didn't hear the speech. What's the price of a pint over in Sasana these days?

That guy is like a really bad identikit picture. Probably the only human being on the planet who would look better with his eyebrows shaved off ;)

Yup, that was shallow wasn't it. Sorry.

er, Alastair Darling, I meant. Not Robo.....

The Sasana: "A Refuge for the Skeptical Buddhist"

Well, in the funny way that forum threads become entwined into ropes, (Gordon Brown meets the Dali Lama, Sasana being the website for the sceptical buddist, Alastair Darling looking like a badly made up clown and taking revenge on mankind by putting up the price of beer, and moglet asking the price of a pint in sasana) a pint of struttocks old berserker in my local, the Rat and Handbag is about 2.50.

edited to add- or about 4p in Tesco.

Who can remember when VAT was 25% ?

The week before it went up I decided to buy a big tape recorder. TEAC 10 1/2" open reel. The dogs whatsit's at the time. I scoured every hifi shop on the Edgeware Rd. and every one looked as if a plague of locusts had descended. Cardboard boxes on the floor and nothing on the shelves. I got what I wanted in the end though. Think it was about £250 quid, which was about 10 weeks wages at the time.

O to be young and daft again. :P

Nothing daft about investing in a TEAC. They were cracking kit! 8)

Have pity on our current 21% VAT rate over here. Stealth taxes. Pcheahhhh, hssssssssss!!!!!

I remember (in the 70's) going into Comet in Reading and ordering a complete suite of Revox gear, tape deck the lot. Never bought it, just wanted to see it and dream. Maybe I should apologise one day !.

No - VAT was once 8% - I know that from my sister's (Valerie Ann Turner) wedding - one of the cards, read "I hope that V.A.T. is more than 8% tonight"
