Can anyone advise about oval mount cutter please?
I've just bought a framing business i've been training to frame and i've inherited a bainbridge oval master mount cutter with a serial number 137339. anyway i'm looking for instructions i can keep around for the staff to refer to. I've looked on the interent and can't find anything. Does anyone have a copy they could e-mail to me or does anyone know where i can get some from? Please help

Nielsen-Bainbridge bought rights to the OvalMaster years ago from the old C&H (Caruthers) people.
I’ll betcha if you give them a jingle and/or talk to a rep, he/she will be able to dredge up an old manual for you.

Hi,
As Bill has pointed out the Oval-Master which produced by C & H, who were Charles and Herb Carithers.
Besides mountcutters they also produced quite a number of books on mountcutting, which still turn up in the secondhand book market. The instructions for cutting the mount designs in these books are for those who use their C & H brand of mountcutters and may be helpful to you.
It's possible that in the business you've bought may even be the odd one of these books.
I got some of these books from a business which was closing down at the same time as I bought an old Magnolia oval cutter which is based on the same principles as the Oval-Master.
I later sold my old Magnolia for a good price while buying the Keencut Oval 6 I now have. This may be something for you to bear in mind if you are planning on changing your C & H for something else at a later time. Considering how little use oval cutters normally get, they usually appear to be in good condition and therefore should always have some resale value.
Having seen and used an Oval-master, I can tell you that it's very well made and you can get some very good results with it too!

Well done if your cutting good ovals with it - I could never get on with my Bainbridge C&H oval cutter. My recollection of the manual is that it was very brief. Its one of those machines you have to get to know. Nielsen should be able to help you - they have a member of staff who is very good with this machine.
