Tapered Box Frame - is it still used?

Hi, I am new to object framing and have a cap to frame. I found the tapered box method by Dave Woolass online and have followed the instructions. It has turned out well, but when viewed from the side there is 100mm or so of board visible behind the frame. Is that acceptable? The youtube film I followed is about 10 years old, so I wonder whether this method is still used? Or should I go down the route of stacking frames to get the depth I need? Thanks, Charlie

From what I understand from trainers who have demonstrated this technique, it is perfectly acceptable and par for the course with this method. You could paint the back of it to better blend with the frame or build a second one in black mountboard to add to the back. An extra layer fo protection on the back can only be a good thing and bumpers on the back to keep airflow.

Tapered Box Frame?? I had no clue until I watched Dave Woolass's video. All becomes clear.

These were more commonly known as Cove Boxes on the Forum many years ago. This sites administrator John Mcafee actually created a little program called 'Cove Mount Designer' which is still available for download in the middle of quite a long thread. I used to use this a lot until we had our own template. See screen shot to help you find it

Well I was going to post pictures of the stacked mouldings and support for the cove box, but I am having problems.
