Hi all

I have a long thin map to frame, glass size 175 x 1750 so out of even jumbo mount size

Map will be tight floated so I'm thinking just go normal mount and hope the join doesn't show too much

Any other ideas?

You can buy watercolour paper on rolls, paste that over a spliced board to cover the joins, you could even colour it if you wanted to.

A bevel cut on the joins, and it will not be noticeable

With many materials available up to 2438 (96") there are many possibilities available. The downside is that the color choice will be somewhat limited. painting the board or covering with fabric is another option. 4 ply rag is available up to 2640mm (104"), at least in the US.

Fabric can also be stretched on stretcher bars. A base of screen material (aluminum, nylon, fiberglass) is another option.

You could use a wooden slip under the glass to give the same visual appearance as mountboard.
Mitres could be filled if you wanted a seamless join.
Centrado do a white slip 50mm x 5mm.

It's to be float mounted.

I had this problem. Centrado offer jumbo mount board up to 8 x 4 feet in the museum ranges. Limited colour options and a bit more expensive but it does the job. The range is called Rising. Off whites and whites only. Best of luck with the job.

I wouldn't even attempt a conventional mount. When you get to that scale you have think a bit 'out of the box'.
I'd go for a wide slip. Gold slips go up to 30mm. With a bit of trickery you can engineer a slip so it fulfills the properties
needed - not crimping the edges of the paper and leaving room for expansion and acting as a spacer for the glazing.
Used with a wide moulding on the outer frame it would look fine. It's not a watercolour or drawing so doesn't really need
a wide blank area surrounding it for visual aesthetics.

If you want the mounted 'look' then Rose&Hollis do a flat bevelled profile (A231) that is 70mm wide. You have to paint it though.

I'm going to try Jeremy's suggestion of bevel cutting at the join and see how it looks. If thought about stripwood but a painted finish won't give the look I'm after.

And white or offwhite just doesn't look right so even the centrado xxxl is out
