Morso Blades

I'm looking for a new set of Morso blades, either new or with plenty of life left in them.

Any suggestions for where to buy?

Has anyone got a double ended set and is it worth paying extra for them to get more time with sharpened blades?

My understanding is that this type of blade has a shorter cutting edge and wiill limit the width of mouldings which you can cut. Yes, you will get twice as much use of both sides before you need to get the blades sharpened, but the shorter cutting edge would be a limitation when cutting wider mouldings.

Yes, up to 40mm apparently. The majority of my mouldings are this size or less so that shouldn't be a big deal.

I buy new sets when I need them from Mainline Mouldings. They also offer a very professional and first class sharpening service. I certainly wouldn’t buy any second hand Morso blades. In my experience they’re second hand because they’re second rate and haven’t been sharpened properly. I only ever get blades that I have bought new sharpened. I would be careful buying them from EBay as someone actually posted on here some time ago that they sell their crap blades there.

In that case these would be good.

The first few cm of any blades get used on every single cut but the back of the blades get much less use, although still plenty, depending on how often you use them to, or close to, their maximum capability. Once swapped around they won’t last as long again unless they’ve never cut anything over about 30 cm first time, but at that point, if they were single sided, they’d need sharpening when maybe 50% of them have had hardly any use.

Regards used blades, like anything else bought used privately, just be careful - e.g. a retiring framer selling off gear should be fine.

Keep them as spares! If you chip a set on the Morso and others are being sharpened you might be grateful for a stop gap emergency alternative.

I now have 4 working sets so don't need any spares, and these ones are too short so need a bit of morso adjustment to cut through.

Whoever sharpens them for you may dispose of them for you; failing that there may be a scrap metal (etc) type business nearby .
