Underpinning narrow float moulding

I have a float moulding with a narrow face and deep rebate. The foot of my trusty CS88 isn't sufficient to hold the narrow moulding in place to be underpinned. Any suggestions would be welcome please (is this when I would use a band clamp)? Thank you.

Not totally sure what you mean, do you have a photo?
Generally pins are there to hold the moulding together while the glue dries, so there's no problem gluing and clamping instead.

Ahhhh.... I know where I've gone wrong. Because it was a sample I was doing I didn't glue it as I normally do. Thank you!
