Flora Day 'The Furry Dance' Held on May 8th.
The Guildhall Dressed.


The first dance is at 7 oclock. The servants dance. We missed it..

10.30. The childrens dance. Some 3000 of then all dressed in white with the school colours as ties for the boys and head flowers for the girls.
From ages 6 to 16 representing the 4 large schools.



Mid day dance. Men in Morning Dress and ladies in Ball Gowns. Dancing into one of the many shops.

Disappearing up the street.

Dancing down the Street. This time on the pavement. Right outside of our shop.

4 miles later. Still dancing up the long hill to the finish about 50 yards behind me.

5 oclock dance. The servants/workers Dance this time. Unfortunately the weather just did not hold. Yet they are still smiling at the start of the dance.

What a great event!

A comment from our Illustrious Leader (John - EstLite) brought these to mind.

These were taken a few years ago now, when all the shopkeepers dressed up in period costume on Flora Day and the following two days.

The first one is Lord and Lady Framer.

The following two days is Admiral Nelson plus Deckhand - in the nicest possible was of course.

The dresses were hand made by Barbara and mine was made from a blue boiler suit just cut away to give the impression of tails. Yellow electrical tape to give the epaulette impression.
The window was turned into a period parlour/sea cabin, with a period chair and drinks table complete with decanter of 'port' (cold tea). Where I spent quite a few hours just sat there watching the world go by as a type of 'mannequin'. The look on the specators faces was just amazing and they kept popping into the shop asking Barbara if I was real ???

That is fantastic. I love the fact that everyone gets involved.

The window done up as a cabin - genious! Shame it wasn't real port!!

Flip you should have entered the turner prize - would have been better than that boggin bedroom that won a few years back.
