Velvet frame?!?

Post by Miss Eclipse »

Hi All and happy September (did we have a summer?)

Have an Airbnb guest arriving at weekend (side business) and they mentioned they had a picture to reframe. I said to bring it and I’d have a look but requested a photo so I knew what I’d be working with. Mmmmmm...! It’s an old china piece with a velvet frame. I have googled everywhere I can think but suspect it’s not going to be easy to replicate and almost certainly above my pay grade.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Of course you can do it.

Go on R&H and chose a domed profile of the width you need.
Make the frame.
Go on ebay and search for 'vintage brown velvet fabric'.

Apply fabric glue to the frame, lay the fabric over the whole frame and making slits from corner to corner, fold in the centre and cut away the excess.

It's a good idea to wrap the frame in clingfilm/handywrap after you have glued it and leave it awhile until the glue sets.

You mean channel my inner Blue Peter skills?

Thanks I will have a look on eBay. Personally I think it would look a whole lot better in a different frame....
