Hi FF,

I have a request to frame a few small canvases with a bare-wood finish for an artist, the canvas depth is 18mm.

The tricky bit is request is for a thin face (the visible part of the moulding) something like 7-9mm.

From looking at suppliers I can find a few at 12mm, but can't see any 'standard' L shaped profile with a face under 12mm.

Which is a bit more expensive and would that leave me with a void under the artwork? Might be a bit too fussy for a small canvas piece.

Anyone have a moulding recommendation for me? Or a workaround?

In my experience, if your canvas is 18mm and your available space is 18mm like in the L1471 with the step, your canvas is going to be a bit proud with the canvas folds underneath, which is never a good look. The difficulty with that moulding is that the canvas needs to be perfectly square. I've never found it right and ditched my sample years ago. As you say the L2427 is the most logical choice. I don't think a 7mm obeche would have the necessary strength hence why it's only available in Ash. The L1833 reversed is 10mm, but a 30 depth leaving your canvases 12mm below the top which could be acceptable.
Actually your best bet is probably Rose and Hollis A306 Obeche, 7mm face, 23mm canvas depth, 46mm total depth.
